On 1st oct 1960 a baby was born
She was called Nigeria
Clad in green white green we celebrated her
In her eyes the bright future burned

If i wasn’t there my father was
If he was not a friend of his was
If nobody we knew was there
Indeed a Nigerian was there

Freedom freedom my dada screamed in the village
As the radio blasted the news leaped with joy
Dancing round with energy caring not for her sagged breast
Joy propelled all to dream for greatness

Fifty years down memory lane we still dreaming
The baby has grown old so soon
Grey hair filled her hair not of wisdom but suffering
Life has been such a misery
