I HAVE SEEN POVERTY

I have seen poverty
It stares at me on the Sunday sunnews headlines
It walks the dark cold town of jos
It screams on the empty silent town of maiduguri
It lies beneath the ruins of bauchi

Yes I have seen poverty

It lives in the swollen belly of somalian kids
It swims in the painful tears of sudan kids sliding down their cheeks
It shares neighborhood with rabbis in the Siberian kid hair
She looks like the smiling toothless kid of congo

Yes I have seen poverty

It is embedded in the long speeches of mallam sanusi
It is sleeping near fela’s resting place
It is living on dimbaigwe regular column
Google africa you can find her in abundance

Yes I have seen poverty

It flies around with flies in the open latrines abound in NIG
It lays lonely in the rusty water pipes around NIG
It hovers over us in the fog from the fumes of our generators
It flys to Swiss banks for vacation

Yes 160 million NIG have seen her”poverty”
